ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s cabinet of ministers has approved a proposal to purchase basic injection solutions from Chinese joint venture Kelun Life Sciences (Pvt) Limited for public sector usage, the cabinet office said.
Kelun Life Sciences (Pvt) Limited, a joint venture established between local manufacturer and Chinese company in 2018, has obtained State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) clearance to establish a plant in Pallekele.
The plant will manufacture basic injection solutions including normal saline, dextrose solution, Hartmann solution and mannitol solution that are injected through the veins. It can produce up to 43 million bottles of basic injection solutions per year.
The cabinet of ministers approved the proposal tabled by the Minister of Health to enter into an agreement to allow the SPMC to procure the aforementioned injection solutions for institutions under the Ministry of Health from Kelun Life Sciences (Pvt) Limited.
The cabinet office said the plant has planned to supply their manufacturing to the market from August, 2021.
Kelun Life Sciences (Pvt) Limited was established with 9.5 million dollars from the foreign investor and the total investment value of the project was expected between 12-75 million dollars. (Colombo/Jul27/2021)
