Sri Lanka condemns attack on envoy to Malaysia
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s foreign ministry condemned an attack on its envoy to Malaysia by suspected ethnic Tamil activists who were protesting the presence of ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the country.
"The Government of Sri Lanka condemns this act of violence on Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner (ambassador) in Malaysia in the strongest terms," the foreign ministry of the island said in a statement.
"The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur is coordinating with local law enforcement authorities in Malaysia and other relevant local authorities to identify the perpetrators and assist with investigations."
The high commissioner is receiving medical attention, the ministry said.
