Sri Lanka Coronavirus deaths rise to 13 with foreign returnee, total Covid-19 positive 3,235
ECONOMYNEXT – A 60-year old seaman who returned from Bahrain had died in hospital on September 14, taking the total death related to Covid-19 to 13, the state information office said with total confirmed cases in the country at 3,235.
The dead person had returned from Bahrain on September 02 and was undergoing quarantine. He had not been initially identified as a Covid-19 positive case.
He had been admitted to hospital on September 09. He had passed away after suffering a heart attack.
Sri Lanka is a global leader in Coronavirus control.
Sri Lanka restricted arrivals from China in January and aggressively traced and quarantined returnees from Italy and other European nations in March and completely locked down the country to contain the spread of the virus.
At least two outbreaks involving a Navy camp and a drug rehabilitation centre has also been contained.
Up to mid-day on September 14, 3,234 Coronavirus patients had been confirmed with 3005 being treated and released.
Out of the total 1,273 were foreign returnees, 48 foreign nationals. Another 950 related to a cluster involving the Navy camp and 650 relating a drug rehabilitation centre.
As of 1600h on September 217 confirmed patients were in hospital and another 56 suspected persons. (Colombo/Sept14/2020)
