Sri Lanka Coronavirus isolates areas in East, Moneragala
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has Coronavirus has isolated 9 areas in the East and a village in Moneragala from O700hour on December 17, army chief Shavendra Silva has said as authorities battled a Covid-19 outbreak with periodic closures without curbing travel from the Western province.
In Akkaraipattu police area, Akkaripattu 5, Akkaripattu 14, town area – 3 has been isolated, the state information department quoted General Silva as saying.
In the Addlachchenai police area, Palmunai -1, Oluvil – 1 and Addalachchenai -8 was isolated.
In Adiyawelambu police area, Adiyawelambu 8/1, Adiyawelambu 8/3 and Adiyawelambu 9 would be isolated.
In the Moneragala district Alupotha grama seva division would be isolated from 0700 hours on December 17.
Up to December 16 Sri Lanka has recorded 160 deaths, and 34,737 confirmed cases. There were 8,925 patients under treatment.
Sri Lanka no longer institutionally quarantines contacts unlike the most successful countries like Vietnam, Cambodia and China but is allowing home quarantine of F1 contacts.
However institutional treatment of confirmed cases is still carried out.
The health ministry said it is fast-tracking new hospitals to accommodate more people. (Colombo/Dec17/2020)
