Sri Lanka COVID 19 update: All 9 new patients are overseas returnees – Army
ECONOMYNEXT-Sri Lanka has identified a total of 9 new COVID-19 patients as at 6 am this morning August 12, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said.
Out of the 9 patients, 5 were returnees from UAE, 3 from Indonesia and other from Saudi Arabia.
With the new cases, the total of confirmed COVID-19 patients in the island has risen to 2,880 with 247 active cases and with 29 patients returning home after recovering as at 6 am this morning the total recovered has risen to 2,622.
The number of patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 629, out of which 508 are detainees, 67 are staff, 5 invited staff members, 48 close contacts and 1 close contact of the patient found from Welikada prison.
A total of 452 have recovered from the Kandakadu cluster while 177 are still undergoing treatment.
A total of 140 returnees have arrived at the country, where 15 have arrived from Dubai, 13 from Doha, 5 from Chennai, India and 107 from the UK.
NOCPOC said that all the returnees will be directed to quarantine centres controlled by the tri-forces upon their arrivals.
Meanwhile, the number of people in quarantine in 41 a centres run by the armed forces is 3,652.
A total of 174,491 PCR tests have been done in the island so far with 1,410 tests carried out yesterday. (Colombo/Aug12/2020)
