Sri Lanka crew on Diamond Princess evacuated to India
ECONOMYNEXT – Two crew members from Sri Lanka who were on board the Coronavirus hit Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan has been evacuated to India where they will be quarantined, the foreign ministry said.
India has taken off the two Sri Lanka in a rescue flight on the at the request of the neigbhouring island.
The two Sri Lankans were in good health, the embassy in Japan had said.
The foreign ministry said 124 persons who were evacuated to India will be quarantined at a military facility in Haryana, India before being repatriated to Sri Lanka.
The ship carried about 3,700 passengers and crew members when it reached the Japanese port port of Yokohama.
After the passengers left the ship, a part of the crew is being evacuated.
US, Australia and the Philippines, have used chartered flights to repatriate hundreds of their citizens.
At least four people who were hospitalized from the Diamond Princess have died.
