ECONOMYNEXT – The central postal exchange of the Sri Lanka Customs Department seized a parcel containing 13,640 tablets of methamphetamine or meth, known locally as ‘ice’, at an estimated market value of 136.4 million rupees, police said.
Sri Lanka Customs Deputy Director Sudaththa Silva said a suspicious parcel sent to Sri Lanka by post from the Netherlands was seized by the central postal exchange.
The recipient of the parcel did not step forward to clear the package, which was then handed over to the officers of the Sri Lanka Postal Department, the Narcotics Division of the Sri Lanka Customs and Sri Lanka Police and was examined by the Bureau of Materials.
The drugs were handed over to the Narcotics Bureau of the Sri Lanka Police for further investigations, police said. (Colombo/Jun23/2022)
