Sri Lanka daily Coronavirus cases spike to 609, fishery harbours closed
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s health authorities have found 609 new Covid 19 patients on October 23, with new cases from linked to fishery harbhours and markets.
Of the 609 new cases; 496 are from a Peliyagoda fish market, 05 from Galle Fishery harbour, 48 from quarantine centres, 20 from Beruwala fishery harbour 40 close contacts of the Beruwala fisheries harbour patients, Sri Lanka’s anti-Covid task force said.
With the new cases, total confirmed COVID-19 patients in the island has risen to 6,896. Some 426 individuals are currently under investigation in hospitals, with 3,238 active cases.
Sri Lanka has imposed quarantine curfew in 35 police areas in Gampaha, Kegalle, Kalutara, Colombo and Kurunegala until further notice.
Fishery harbhours and fish markets and shopping complexes in several towns have been closed, after fish traders were found infected, media reports said.
