Sri Lanka electric car sales hit new high in October
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s electric car registrations hit a new high of 529 units in October 2015, surpassing the previous high of 473 reached in September, an analysis of vehicle registry data showed.
In October sales of Nissan Leaf cars, Sri Lanka’s best-selling electric car reached 506 units, up from 459 units in September, JB Securities, a Colombo-based brokerage said.
There were also six BMW i3 cars, eight Benz B class and five Volkswagen E-Golfs registered during the month.
Sri Lanka has slashed taxes for electric cars and sales started to surge in 2015.
Heavy demand from Sri Lanka also pushed up prices at auctions in Japan, but electric cars have now become popular.
