Sri Lanka fishermen warned to stay off seas, 100-140kmph winds feared

ECONOMYNEXT  – Sri Lanka’s fishermen are warned to stay off Northern and Eastern seas where wind speeds may exceed 100 kph from cyclonic storm Fani, which is now about 750 kilometres off the island.

The Sri Lanka Disaster Management Agency said wind speeds of as much as 140 kilometres may be experienced up to 300 kilometres away from the centre of the storm.

On May 02, the storm was north east of Jaffna, about 750 kilometres away. Deep seas off Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee may see winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour.

Fishermen have been warned to stay away from Northern, North Eastern, Eastern and South Eastern, Western and North Western seas.

Many areas of the island could experience heavy rains with winds over 60 kilometres and hour and 100 millimetres of rain.
