Sri Lanka gets 2.05 million tourists in 2016
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has welcomed 2.05 million tourists in 2016, up 14 percent from a year earlier, but lower than an expected 2.2 million tourists, data from the state tourism promotion office shows.
Visitors from India rose 12.8 percent to 356,729, remaining the largest generation market for Sri Lanka.
Chinese arrivals rose 16.4 percent to 271,577.
UK arrivals rose 16.3 percent to 188,159.
Arrivals from Germany rose 15 percent to 133,275.
Sri Lanka is expecting a slowdown in arrivals in the first half of 2017 with the airport being closed for part of the day for runway repairs. (Colombo/Jan03/2016)
