Sri Lanka hopes to strike Volkswagen export factory deal shortly: Harsha
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is hoping to strike a deal with Germany’s Volkswagen within a month to produce vehicles for export, Deputy Economic Policy Minister Harsha de Silva said.
"After so many years we are getting a fortune 500 company to start investing in Sri Lanka," de Silva told a forum of professionals in Colombo.
"They are coming and we are hoping to sign the agreement before the end of the month to start producing VWs; Jettas, Passats, Vans. They hoping to export out of here to some South Asian countries and Africa."
De Silva said in January that Volkswagen had tried to set up a factory several years ago but had gone away.
