Sri Lanka ICT workforce male dominant, females increasing

ECONOMYNEXT  – Female workers in Sri Lanka’s information communication technology sector has increased from 29 percent in 2013 to 34 percent in 2019, but males are still dominating, a survey has found.

Sri Lanka’s state ICT agency surveyed pure ICT companies, IT departments of non-ICT companies, government and business process outsouring/management firms in 2018 after a gap of several years.

The survey was last done in 2013.

"Two thirds of ICT jobs are occupied by males," ICTA project officer Vemani Kushalya said.  "However, this composition varies significantly across major employer categories."

In ICT firms females were 35.6 percent. In government organizations the female share was now 40 percent.

Females however dominated in client support with at around 60 percent. (Colombo/Aug08/2019)
