Sri Lanka launches first post-Easter promotional campaign in India
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s state tourism agencies have partnered with the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators, The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka and SriLankan Airlines to offer promotional packages for Indian travelers from June 10, a statement said.
“We look forward to activating this campaign as soon as possible in India and looking at similar offers in other key source markets including China which is expected to be rolled out in the future," Tourism Development Minister John Amaratunga said.
"Our tourist sites and hotels are fully operational and Sri Lanka Tourism is looking forward to welcoming visitors.”
This is the first promotional campaign launched after the Easter Sunday bombings, which killed 258 persons, including 42 tourists.
Five packages will be offered, with a combination of stays ranging from Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Dambulla, Sigiriya and the South Coast. Tourists could select standard, superior or deluxe accommodation to suit their budget.
The offer will be valid for stays from June 10, 2019 to September 30, 2019 and will be available for booking and sale through the Sri Lankan Holidays network in India.
“The national carrier SriLankan Airlines has over 120 flights per week to key Indian cities and we believe such offers are quick to popularize across Indian cities," SriLankan Worldwide Sales Head Dimuthu Tennakoon said.
Mastercard, which has over 180 million cardholders in India, will be promoting the packages through its sales channels.
During a similar promotions campaign in September to November 2018, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau had observed spending patterns of Indian tourists.
India is Sri Lanka’s largest tourism market, and accounted for 18.2 percent, or 424,887 arrivals in 2018, up 10.5 percent from a year earlier.
