Sri Lanka lifts social media ban
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered telecommunications authorities to lift a temporary ban on social media platforms and messaging apps imposed after Easter Sunday’s suicide bombings.
The state information office said in a statement the government calls on social media users to act with responsibility.
The ban was imposed to prevent spread of false news that could worsen social tention after the bombings of three churches and three hotels killed over 250 people.
