Sri Lanka makes GSP Plus application
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is to formally apply to regain the European Union’s Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Plus trade deal this evening, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Harsha de Silva said.
The application will be made by the island’s envoy in Brussels, he told a news conference.
A decision by the EU is expected in about six months, de Silva said.
Sri Lanka will also have to negotiate a separate trade deal with the United Kingdom, which accounts for 35% of the island’s export, now that it is to leave the European Union, de Silva said.
