Sri Lanka may open movie theatres on June 27 under strict guidelines

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is considering reopening movie theatres on June 27 under strict hygiene guidelines as issued by health authorities.

However, cinemas can be opened only after handing over a declaration of consent completed by the head of administration to the Public Health Inspector (PHI) of its local area, a government press release said.

A copy of this declaration must be furnished to the respective local authorities.

The guidelines for cinemas were issued by Health Services Director General Dr Anil Jasinghe, upon a request made by Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs Bandula Harischandra.

Dr Jasinghe said that It is imperative to establish a systematic program for cinema halls among the steps taken to prevent a re-emergence of COVID-19 since the epidemic is now under control.

Cinema operators are advised to strictly adhere to the guidelines, the press release said, which will be made available on the Ministry of Health official website soon. (Colombo/Jun23/2020)
