Sri Lanka Navy to buy emergency response vessel from Colombo Dockyard
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka Navy has been cleared to purchase a Maintenance and Emergency Response Vessel (MERV) from Colombo Dockyard Plc, by the cabinet of ministers, the state information office said.
The vessel is expected to provide services to state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
In July the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation had wanted to hire a MERV to service their single point buoy mooring systems.
However it was decided to examine the possibility of purchasing a vessel instead.
The Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Defence had then submitted a proposal to purchase a MERV.
The vessel will be purchased by Sri Lanka Navy from Colombo Dockyard Plc as agreed after discussion between the two ministries and officials.
The Navy will provide services to connect vessels to the two SPBMs and provide maintenance. (Colombo/Nov19/2020)
