ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued red alert, asking people to evacuate due to possible landslides after several areas in the country due to the prevailing heavy rains, the Disaster Management Centre said.
Areas in Kalutara and Ratnapura districts have been included in the red alert while some area in the same districts along with Galle have been included in level two risk.
Details of the landslide warning:
Red alert (evacuation notice)
Kalutara – Palindanuwara
Ratnapura – Ratnapura, Kuruwita and Elapatha
Level two –
Galle – Yakkalamulla, Nagoda and Baddegama
Kalutara – Walallawita and Bulathsinhala
Ratnapura – Eheliyagoda, Kahawaththa, Kalawana and Ayagama
Level one-
Colombo – Seethawaka
Kalutara – Agalawatta and Mathugama
Kandy – Ududumbara
Kegalle – Yatiyanthota, Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, Deraniyagala and Bulathkohupitiya
Matale – Ambanganga Korale
Nuwara Eliya – Ambagamuwa
Ratnapura – Pelmadulla, Kiriella and Nivithigala
Meanwhile the irrigation department has issued flood warnings residents around Kalu Ganga (river) due
to a considerable rainfall been occurred in upstream catchment areas of Kuda Ganga Sub Basin of Kalu
River.
“By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels of Hydrological Stations in Kuda Ganga,
there is a possibility of occurring a minor flood situation in low-line areas of Kuda Ganga valley situated in
Palinda Nuwara and Bulathsinhala D/S Divisions,” Irrigation department in a statement said.
“It is requested to pay high attention in this regards by the residents in those area and vehicle drivers
running through those areas.”
Disaster Management centre said, the water levels of Gin river, Attanagalu Oya and Kelani river are also
rising and asked the residents in low lying areas around the river areas to be vigilant due to possibilities
