ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is on track to complete a new passenger terminal that will boost capacity at the main international airport 2023 and have high tec ‘smart terminal’ facilities Presidents office with normal operations dampened by Coronavirus.
“President Rajapaksa instructed the authorities to complete the construction work of the airport as early as possible by working day and night utilizing the opportunity created by the disruption of airport operations,” his office said.
TAISEI Corporation, Japan, is the main contractor for the project with Japan Airport Consultants Inc. (JAC) and Nippon Koei Co. Ltd. (NK) as consultants.
A new multi-level terminal building, two new piers and a link course will be built.
In the multilevel terminal building (Terminal 2) with floor area of 180,000 square meters m2, arrivals and departures are separated vertically.
A new parking apronm taxiways, elevated access roads, multi-story car park and public utilities are also part of the project. (Colombo/Oct02/2020)
