ECONOMYNEXT – The government is unable to acquire any revenue from “large-scale online businesses” operating in the country, an MP said, recommending that a system for registering all businesses in Sri Lanka through one system should be implemented immediately.
A Parliamentary Special Committee headed by MP Madhura Withanage recommended that all businesses in Sri Lanka be registered under a QR code system, a statement released by the Department of Government Information yesterday (13) said.
The Committee met to analyse the setbacks to improving Sri Lanka’s ranking in the Ease of Doing Business index, which is compiled using data from the World Bank.
Sri Lanka was ranked 99 out of 190 economies in the 2020 report, which was a benchmark study of regulation across the world.
Withanage said that a more effective service can be obtained by creating an entrepreneurial mindset among government employees. (Colombo/Sep14/2023)
