ECONOMYNEXT – A motion against the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka will be brought in parliament, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.
“The Parliament will re-convene on February 08 after President’s speech,” Wijesekera told reporters.
“We are taking action to bring a proposal against Chairman of the Commission.”
A ‘charge sheet’ was being prepared and all ruling party legislators are ready to support, he said
PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake and the Energy Ministry has clashed several times over price hikes and power cuts.
“I’m eagerly waiting to face the charge sheet which is said has been prepared by Minister Kanchana Wijesekara,” Ratnayake said.
The government is trying to raise tariffs. There is also an ongoing controversy over power cut during the Advanced Level exam period in which the country’s Human Rights Commission is also involved. (Colombo/Jan29/2022)
