Sri Lanka parliament’s COPE to summon outgoing CB Governor
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka parliament’s committee on public enterprises (COPE) has decided to summon Central Bank and Treasury officials on July 07, Chairman Sunil Handunetti said.
Sri Lanka’s Auditor General had presented a probe report on alleged bond scams to the committee, he told domestic televison.
A 1200 page report had been handed over to parliamentary speaker Karu Jayasuriya and COPE members had been given a summary, he said.
Central Bank Governor Mahendran said he is not seeking a re-appointment until the COPE investigation was complete.
President Maithripala Sirisena said on June 29 that a new governor would be appointed in the coming hours.
Civil society groups and good governance advocates were seeking to oust him over alleged rigging of bond auctions and insider dealing. (Colombo/June30/2016)
