ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is planning to launch tourism app shortly which will provide information in seven key languages to visitors and improve security of tourists, a top official said.
The app will also provide information on three-wheeler taxis registered with tourism authorities.
“Providing better security for the tourist and as well as all the information they need on a holiday like all sites of attraction will be included in it Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), Chairman, Priantha Fernando said.
“And other areas like the formalities in making payments will be included there.”
The app is likely to launched in March, 2023.
SLTDA is in the process of registering three-wheelers in the provinces.
Registered three-wheel drivers will have to undergo a training program in discipline and etiquette.
The app will be available in main languages covering tourists from Germany, France, Russia and China in addition to English.
Fernando said tourists will be encouraged to use registered three wheelers through the websites and social media.
Visitors can scan a QR-code assigned to the three wheeler once they get into the vehicle and their location can be monitored.
“This method will make the administering and monitoring of the operations easy,” Fernando said.
” Moreover, the tourist police officers are very active these days and if there are any incidents they will take quick action.” (Colombo/ Mar 06/2023)
