ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has said it is expanding its storage facilities in Colombo port by rebuilding a warehouse burnt down in a fire.
The rebuilt Container Freight Station (CFS 1) at the Jaya Container Terminal in Colombo port is scheduled to be opened next month, a statement said.
The warehouse will have 5,400 square metres of covered space, it said.
"We aim to handle less than container load cargo and cargo imported for re-export at the new warehouse,” Upali De Zoysa, Director – Logistics of the SLPA, told EconomyNext.com.
The CFS 1 warehouse was destroyed in 2013 by a fire caused by undeclared inflammable chemical cargo.
