Sri Lanka Ports Authority probes fire at contractor site
ECONOMYNEXT – The Sri Lanka Ports Authority said it has begun an investigation into a fire that broke out at a private construction site used by contractor Hyundai in the Colombo port on Monday.
The fire broke out at a stack of scrap rubber tubes that had been used to pump sand to the land from the sea during dredging, and not at the East Container Terminal as some media reported, a statement said.
“There was no disturbance to day-to-day activities of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority or the Colombo Port terminals,” it said.
“The private site is located outside the shipping operation area of the Colombo port. No property of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority was lost and no personal injuries were reported due to the fire.”
