Sri Lanka postal service ecommerce platform for small business

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s state-run Department of Posts, known as Sri Lanka Post, aims to get 1,000 entrepreneurs on to its ‘Bepost.lk’ electronic commerce site to support small businesses in the next three months.

It said the Bepost.lk official e-business web application and the total trade facilitation software solution were developed of the department’s e-business and technology management centre.

Sri Lanka Post has been able to register more than 200 entrepreneurs on the Bepost.lk application in the first three months after its launch and more than 1500 products by small and medium businesses.

The target of this year is to register 3,000 entrepreneurs and more than 15,000 products on the platform from which the department will earn commission income.

A statement said the application was designed in accordance with the Global Trade Facilitation Program introduced by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the United Nations specialized agency for the postal sector.

The Sri Lanka Post platform will also have a products delivery facility through the Department of Posts island wide delivery channel and facilitate overseas delivery through the international postal network.

“The key beneficiaries of the 1st stage of this program are Micro, Small and Medium scale entrepreneurs,” the statement said.

Businesses using the platform can reach online customers directly, bypassing intermediate resellers or middlemen.
