Sri Lanka President calls for independent probe for bondscams

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena had called for an independent probe into irregular bond auctions after a parliamentary panel called for legal action against ex-Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and a bond dealership connected to his son-in-law.

"Investigation into the CB bond issue should be free from political interference; there will be an independent and impartial judicial process," President Sirisena said in a Twitter message.

The parliamentary panel said Mahendran was responsible for irregular bond auctions where Perpetual Treasuries, a firm connected to his son-in-law Arjun Alloysius, made billions of rupees.
