Sri Lanka President moots central database for citizen’s information
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has asked officials to look into building a central database of citizens, containing all their personal information.
Information available to from National Identity Cards, driving licenses, immigration and immigration documents could be brought under one database.
President Rajapaksa had discussed the central database at a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, his office said.
At the moment, the data is contained in several agencies.
A central database will make processes more efficient, and prevent errors, President Rajapaksa has said.
The inter-connectivity among ministries, departments and semi-governmental organizations is vital in the development process of the country, the statement said. (Colombo/Dec30/2019)
