Sri Lanka rushes hospitals for Coronavirus as Covid-19 infections outpace recoveries
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will take-over more hospitals and rapidly convert them to Coronavirus treatment as confirmed infections continued to outpace recoveries, the island’s health ministry said.
While daily recoveries are about 500, new cases are ranging around 500 to 600 a day.
“It has been decided to take over ospitals that can treat a larger number of people and rapidly covert them for Covid-19 treatmetn,” following a meeting of the anti-Covid task force with Health Minister ministry statement said.
“Funds will be allocated from the Health Ministry from World Bank and Asian Development Bank assistance.”
Total cases under treatment which ranged around 6,000 last month have now climbed to around 9,000 official data show.
Sri Lanka was now conducting about 15,000 PCR tests and about 3,000 antigen tests mostly in the Western province.
Up to December 16, 34,121 Coronavirus cases had been confirmed in Sri Lanka and 157 persons had died. (Colombo/Dec16/2020)
