ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will not experience power cuts on Wednesday August 10 and Sunday August 14, while a one-hour power cut will be imposed on Thursday August 11 and Friday August 12, Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said.
All Groups (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, and W) will experience an hour-long power cut between 6.00pm and 9.00pm on Thursday and Friday.
“On holidays, power consumption goes down by almost 10 percent. That benefit is being passed down to the people,” said Ratnayake, speaking to EconomyNext.
He added that with increased tariffs, it was only fair to give the people some relief by reducing power cut duration.
Sri Lanka has been able to reduce power cut durations from three hours to one hour due to the increased monsoon rainfall.
The PUCSL and other groups have been pushing to bring in renewables to Sri Lanka, where the majority of electricity is produced by burning imported fuel and coal. (Colombo/Aug10/2022)
