Sri Lanka seeks turnkey contractor for U$68mn Heda Oya reservoir
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will call bids to choose a turnkey contractor who will build a reservoir that can store 147 million cubic metres on Heda Oya, that will provide water to eastern areas of the island.
The cabinet of ministers had approved a proposal by the ministry of irrigation to call international competitive bids for a contractor who build the reservoir estimated to cost 10.25 billion rupees (68 million dollars) and also provide finance.
The reservoir will provide water to irrigate 5,308 hectares of new irrigation land and 1,255 hectares of existing lands in Heda Oya, Vila Oya and Karanda Oya river valleys.
It will also provide five million cubic metres of drinking water to the Pothuvil, Lahugala and Panana areas in the Ampara district.
