Sri Lanka ‘shadow FM’ Namal Rajapaska arrested
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s "shadow foreign minister" Namal Rajapaksa was arrested Monday by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division of the police over a transaction involving India’s Krrish group.
He was remanded till the July 18.
Rajapaksa, the eldest son of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested shortly after being questioned over his alleged involvement in a property development in Colombo with Krrish, police sources said.
There had been allegations of kickbacks being paid to members of the former regime in connection with the granting of a prime property in down town Colombo.
Rajapaksa, an elected parliamentarian, was last week named ‘shadow foreign minister’ by a group of opposition members loyal to his father. (Colombo/July11/2016)
