Sri Lanka spice traders welcome pepper re-export ban

ECONOMYNEXT – An association of spice exporters have welcomed a call by President Maithripala Sirisena to ban the re-export of pepper from Sri Lanka.

 Sri Lanka’s Spices & Allied Products Producers’ & Traders’ Association said it was "very happy  to learn from the media that His Excellency President Sirisena has directed that the re-export of Pepper from Sri Lanka would be banned from February 10th 2018.

"This step is in the right direction to protect Sri Lanka Pepper," it said.

The President said he would also ban the re-export of areca nuts (betel nut) and tea.  (Colombo/Jan29/2018)
