Sri Lanka state bank credit to pay plantations interim wages
ECONOMYNEXT – State-run Bank of Ceylon and People’s Bank will advance cash to pay an interim salary hike to workers in privatized plantations following discussions with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.
The Prime Minister had met representatives of the Regional Plantations Companies and the Employees Federation of Ceylon on Monday July 25 the Prime Minister’s office said.
The funds will be advanced on July 26, by People’s Bank and Bank of Ceylon on an agreement struck between regional plantations companies and the Tea Board.
A letter of comfort had been given by the Treasury.
