ECONOMYNEXT – State-run Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation has been given the go ahead to build a solar power station in the site where Germany’s Deutsche Welle ran a short and medium wave relay station, Information Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.
“There is potential to set up an 80 to 100MW solar power plant in the location,” Minister Alahapperuma said.
The money from the solar plant will supplement the income of the SLBC.
Deutsche Welle, the Voice of Germany set up a relay station in Trincomallee in 1980.
In 2012 the site was handed over to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. (Colombo/Jan19/2021)
