Sri Lanka stock exchange trading stops after back-up power fails

ECONOMYNEXT – Trading at Sri Lanka’s Colombo Stock Exchange was halted after back-up power generators in the building failed as the island was hit by power cuts, but as resumed trading within 20 minutes, a spokesman said.
"Trading was temporarily halted due to a power failure," a spokesman said. "Trading resumed at 10.15 (am).
Sri Lanka is under power cuts after a nation-wide power outage put a large coal plant out of action.
The Colombo Stock Exchange halted trading around 9.56 am, after back-up power at the World Trade Centre also failed.
CSE however has alternate arrangements to keep trading and also has a disaster recovery site to which trading can be transferred if necessary.
