Sri Lanka stocks close 0.47 percent higher
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.47 percent higher for the second continuous day on index heavy stocks Commercial Bank Ceylinco Insurance and HayleysPlc, interim reports showed.
Colombo’s main, All Share Price Index gained 15.04 points to 5,235.61.
ASPI opened the day on a positive note but within an hour into trading, stumbled to reach the intra-days lowest 5,230.89 and again the market picked up and continued the trajectory till closing.
S&P SL20 index of most liquid stocks gained 0.87 percent or 19.92 points to 2,297.12.
Market analysts say that the continuous market gain could be due to re-activation from high-net-worth-individuals.
Market turnover reached 1.9 billion rupees while 66 stocks made gains and equally 99 made losses.
Crossing or negotiated trade in the market too contributed to the market turnover. Seven crossings were seen in John Keells Holdings amounted to 275 million rupees.
Net foreign sales in the market amounted to a staggering 280 million rupees.
Commercial Bank contributed most to ASPI’s gain, trading 2,40 rupees up at 83.40 rupees a share.
Other stocks which contributed to ASPI’s gain were Ceylinco Insurance up 85.60 rupees to close at 1,938.60 rupees a share while Hayleys Plc gained 20.50 rupee to close at 192.60 rupees a share. (Colombo/Aug13/2020)
