Sri Lanka stocks close 0.60-pct up
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.60 percent higher for the second week on index heavy stocks in LOLC Holdings Plc, Ceylon Tobacco plc and John Kells Plc, interim reports showed.
Colombo’s main, All Share Price Index gained 31.36 points to 5,282.97.
ASPI opened the day on a positive note and within an hour into trading, stumbled to reach the intra-days lowest 5,254.77 and again the market picked up and continued the trajectory till closing.
S&P SL20 index of most liquid stocks gained 0.61 percent or 14.13 points to 2,331.12.
Market turnover reached 1.7 billion rupees while 71 stocks made gains and 84 stocks made losses.
Crossing or negotiated trade in the market too contributed to the market turnover.
Crossing amounted to 24.3 million rupees was seen in Expolanka Holdings at 4.50 rupees per share and the stock closed 50 cents high at 5.00 rupees per share.
Another crossing was seen in Dialog Axiata Plc amounted to 22.5 million rupees at 11.20 rupees per share and the stock closed flat at 11.20 rupees per share.
LOLC Holdings contributed most to ASPI’s gain, trading 13.20 rupees up at 156.30 rupees a share.
Other stocks which contributed to ASPI’s gain were John Keells Plc up by 2.10 to close at 129.60 rupees a share while Ceylon Tobacco Plc gained 14.60 rupee to close at 974.40 rupees a share. (Colombo/Aug 18/2020)
