ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is reviewing subsidized credit schemes targeting small and medium entrepreneurs, are expected to resume after identifying economic priorities, the finance ministry said.
“Th at e government clearly understands that subsidized credit schemes to encourage small and medium entrepreneurs to increase their contribution to the economy,” the finance ministry said.
“The Finance and Economic Development Ministry has decided to review the program based on the policy priorities of the new administration.
“Following a review the credit schemes will be operated with a broad focus on productive objectives.”
The statement came amid reports that so-called Enterprise Sri Lanka branded SME loan schemes started during the last administration had been halted. (Colombo/Nov27/2019)
