Sri Lanka to build 100MW floating solar plant in reservoir
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will call bids to build a 100 MegaWatt float solar power plant in an irrigation reservoir, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.
The cabinet of ministers has given the nod international competitive bids to be called to build the plant, in Maduru Oya reservoir, he said.
The plant is expected to cover 4 percent of the surface area of the reservoir (500 acres) which is spread over an area of 15,790 acres.
The joint proposal was made by President Maithripala Sirisena as minister of Mahaweli Development with the ministries of power and science and technology. (Colombo/Mar01/2017 – corrected – areas of Maduru Oya reservoir is 15,790 acres)
