ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will call international bids for a new fight information management system, cabinet spokesman Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.
The existing system too outdated for air traffic control need to cover the Sri Lanka Flight Information Region, and quality of the information could decline, he said.
A proposal by Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to call for internationally competitive bids for the supply and installation of a flight information management system was approved by the cabinet of ministers on December 16.
Minister de Silva said earlier this month that authorities were also looking to relax air space restriction in several parts of the country imposed during a long running civil war that ended in 2009. (Colombo/Dec18/2015)
