Sri Lanka to call tenders for 60, mini solar farms shortly: minister
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka plans to float tenders to build 60 1 MegaWatt solar power plants of 1 MegaWatts each, next week, Deputy Energy Minister Ajith Perera said.
Solar is among the most expensive source of power.
"Cost of solar power technology has been coming down," Perera said. "We are calling transparent tenders from investors."
By calling tenders instead of using lobbied rates decided by the regulator, Sri Lanka has sharply brought down the feed in costs of wind energy from around 20 rupees to a little over 12 rupees under the watch of Perera.
