Sri Lanka to fund technology upgrades of rural dairy, agriculture and fisheries
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is unveiling a program to upgrade, rural agriculture, and diary and fisheries, which will boost their capacity and output and the quality of products with subsidized credit, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said.
“We will be giving 100,000 rupees for drip irrigation in rural agriculture,” Samaraweera said. “For dairy we are allocating funds for small milk transport tanks for 200,000 rupees and 650,000 for refrigeration systems.
Drip irrigation saves water and nutrients.
“For coastal fisheries we will give 100,000 for nets and fibre glass boxes. We will give funds for new engines for coastal fisheries craft.”
The funds will be given from September, he said. (Colombo/Aug30/2019)
