Sri Lanka to get Volkswagen plant: PM
ECONOMYNEXT – Germany’s Volkswagen is planning to set up a car plant in Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said.
The factory will be set up in Kurunegala in the north Central Province, he told a party rally in Colombo on July 11.
Deputy Economic Policy Minister Harsha de Silva said in January that Volkswagen has been trying to set up a plant in Sri Lanka since 2008, but has not suceeded due to unspecified reasons.
Sri Lanka now has several car assembly plant which are engaged in tax – arbitrage.
