Sri Lanka to give promotions incentive for inbound tour operators
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s tourism promotion agency is planning to give an advertising incentive for inbound tour operators to encourage them to promote the country by matching it with their own funds.
A Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau official said cabinet approval will be sought to give 10 US dollars per visitor brought into the country, which has to be matched with an equal amount by the tour operator.
The fund will then be used for advertising.
Tour operators who bring more than 1,000 tourists to the country annually are eligible for the program.
For small and medium-scale operators, the threshold is 250 tourists, the spokesperson said.
The official said the program was active in the past but was discontinued, and is being reactivated due to requests from tour agents.
A tourist is estimated to spend around 2,000 US dollars in Sri Lanka per stay, according to official statistics. (Colombo/Feb11/2019 – SB)
