ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will house crew from aircraft stopping at Mattala close to the airport, a statement from the President’s office said after concerns over a Russian airman who stayed at a urban centre tested positive for Coronavirus.
President Gotabya Rajapaksa had met aviation sector officials this week.
Officials had discussed providing hotel accomodations with maximum facilities for flight crew..in the vicinity of Mattala airport,” the statement said.
Concerns rose after a Russian airman who had initially tested negative for Covid-19 had visited supermarkets in Matara after staying at nearby hotel.
Aircrew staying over are expected to stay in the room and also have in-room dining and not use hotel restaurants, according to instructions issued by Civil Aviation authorities.
Mattala Airport is allowing technical stops, refuelling, ferrying seamen for crew changes, rest stops as well as repatriation flights.
Since January 2020, 270 flights and 12,000 passengers had been handled at the airport. (Colombo/Oct02/2020)
