ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will open cinemas around the country from January 01, 2021, under Coronavirus health rules, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has said.
Cinemas in isolated areas would remain closed.
Film producers, directors, exhibitors and artistes had informed PM Rajapaksa that the industry was badly hit by the closures.
The Prime Minister is also the Minister of Buddhist and Cultural Affairs.
The Prime Minister had asked that the cinemas be opened, under health guidelines and quarantine regulations.
He had also asked cinema owners to disinfect the building and ensure that filmgoers followed health rules. (Colombo/Dec28/2020)
