Sri Lanka to service Dutch ships in the Indian Ocean
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will provide services for Dutch Navy vessels operating off the coast of Somalia to protect shipping from pirates.
The cabinet of ministers had approved a proposal by President Maithripala Sirisensa as defence minister to sign a memorandum with The Netherlands.
Somali pirates who have been dormant for several years seized a ship with Sri Lankan sailors in March 2017.
Sri Lanka also provides sea marshals to protect ships off the coast of East Africa.
