ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will expedite cases pending at a tax appeals commission filing vacancies to triple its ability to handle work, State Minister of Finance, Eran Wickramaratne said.
Though the governing act provides for nine commissions serving in panels of three person, only one such panel had been appointed so far, Wickramaratne said.
There are around 1,500 case pending at the commission said.
"Delays in solving tax appeals is a loss to the government as money loses value with time," Wickramaratne said.
Tax payers would also face an injustice when justice is delayed, he said. (Colombo/June19/2017)
